US Congress bans internet gambling
WASHINGTON -- (REUTERS) -- U.S congress approved this early saturday, September 30, a bill that would ban most forms of internet gambling. The House of Representatives and Senate approved the measure and sent it to President George W. Bush to sign into law.
The bill just approved, as expected, would make it illegal for credit card companied and bank institutes to accept money transactions to online gambling sites. Democrats had accused Republicans of pushing the bill to please the conservative base before the elections of next November 7.
Arizona Republican Senator Jon Kyl was the main sponsor of this measure. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, a potential 2008 presidential candidate, recently appeared at a hearing in Iowa to listen all the concerns regarding this Internet gambling bill.
